LA ESPECTACULAR seeks to encourage local artistic creation and offer a cultural program for research, development and presentation of new works in the performing arts. The residency is aimed specifically at independent artists and / or collectives that use the body in movement as the main means of their work, be it in dance, physical theater, performance art, and / or any interdisciplinary manifestation of the body.

“en-cierro” is a multidisciplinary performance piece by Awilda Sterling that is considered a work in progress. For this piece, Sterling has been in artistic collaboration with Laura Patricia RA who created and executed the audiovisual concept and installation component. Together they have adapted this piece to 4 venues site specific explorations of the various forms of "solitary confinement" humans navigate. Sterling performs experimental dance and graphic arts in the piece while RA creates the audiovisual content and installation that encloses artist and witnesses alike. Since the exploration begun in 2016 they have adapted and presented it in four different venues in Puerto Rico and are currently developing a fifth iteration.

Algo comienza a presenciarse (Something begins it's presencing),
2016, video installation
Algo comienza a presenciarse is an original video installation piece that I first produced for my thesis project at La Escuela de Artes Plásticas y Diseño de Puerto Rico. The work in progress engages the following themes; the historical use and evolution of borders, migration and discrimination; the concepts & practices contained in the methods of social control exercised by the colonizing imperial power structures that have been dismembering us for centuries. It conveys both the frustration and pain that these oppressive forces unveil with my admiration for humankind's sublime resilience.
Here are a few samples of productions I've worked as 1st Assistant Camera.
I actively collaborate with CEPA as creative and artistic development coordinator.
Cepa’s mission is to foster the decolonization of Puerto Rico through initiatives which support our individual and collective capacity to live in wholeness. Together we explore the intersections of health and freedom by asking how colonialism has shaped our relationships to our bodies, each other and the earth. Key to our work is practice; together we learn strategies to uproot trauma and transform our lives.
Documented and edited video for Nibia Pastrana‘s performance piece workshop on nothing presented during two weeks at Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico (MAC) [The Contemporary Art Museum of Puerto Rico}.
